In a nutshell, what was the most important lesson you learned at HIM?

The Hospitality Management program at HIM pushed me to think creatively, taught how to collaborate with others, and how to step beyond my comfort zone, profoundly influencing my studies, personal life, and career.

But on a more more personal level, I’ve learned that school isn’t just about grades, but also about the connections you make with fellow students, staff, and lecturers. These relationships can open doors and help you land your dream job.

For me, it’s about the experiences and the people you meet. I graduated with a GPA over 3.0, striking a balance between academic success and a rich network.

How has your view of the hospitality industry evolved since studying at HIM?

I now understand that hospitality is crucial to every business, no matter the industry, be it a hotel, bank, or car dealership.

Hospitality is the heart of any venture, and staff should know how to engage with customers effectively for the business to thrive. Mastering customer interaction is essential.

Has it inspired you to think about building a career outside of hospitality?

Indeed! I believe that the skills I’ve learned in the hospitality world has given me a strong foundation to build my own business, whatever that might be. Every business is essentially about people, right?
So here I am, currently working in the automobile industry and planning to open up an international business. More specifically, I intend to open car dealerships in Sweden, Denmark, and the United Arab Emirates, and launch marketing companies to help small startups develop strategies worldwide.

That sound incredible, Abdullah! Thank you for an inspiring conversation. Best of luck to you!
